Festa Week - Onion City Supper
Nov. 12th, 2011 05:53 pmLast night we went to Onion City Supper presented by Misery Loves Co. The theme for the night was Old School Bistro. We got there around 7:45 and there was about a 1/2 hour wait, the place was jam-packed, and they were having to turn folks away soon after we got there. To say that Aaron, Nate, and Laura have a following is an understatement!
Here's what they had on the menu (with what we ate in italics):
Roasted bone marrow, onion jam
18 month ham, house churned butter
Pig head salad
Plateau de fruits de mer
Porkstrami, veal tongue, 28 day sauerkraut
Pork belly, braised endive
Chicken liver mousse, madeira jelly
Steak frites, béarnaise
Chicken in a pot
Marinated beets
Roasted fingerling potatoes
Celery root remoulade
Leeks vinaigrette, fried egg
Lemon tart, goat cheese
All of the vegetables (except perhaps the potatoes) were sold out by the time we got seated and ordered. Everything was extraordinarily delicious!
The fuits de mer plate included toast with roe, two raw oysters, two peel-and-eat shrimp, lobster salad, scallop ceviche, and a sea urchin. The porkstrami and veal plate was so good; underneath the sauerkraut there was a nice bit of decadent mashed potatoes, taking the whole thing to a sublime level. And, honestly, the steak frites was the best version of the dish I've ever had. The steak had a great crust, rare in the middle, and practically melted in my mouth. The fries were skinny, herbaceous, and crispy.
These peeps have a following for a reason. Run, don't walk, to the next Misery Loves Co. event! (Unless, of course, if you're a vegetarian; then don't.) Oh, and save us a seat!
